Our 2nd ever workshop for filmmakers and cinematographers was another triumph!  (Click here if you missed the blog entry, with spoof videos!)  Once again we met such a wonderful crowd of enthusiastic people, who travelled from as far as Yorkshire and Denmark to be with us!

This time around we included some simply amazing guest talkers – Martin Hill (photographer), Kode Media (digital media agency) and Little Voice Media (audio specialist).   Their added input far exceeded our expectations, and we all came away buzzing with new ideas and techniques!

Thanks also goes to Elbie Van Eeden (make-up artist), and Philippa and Damien (our bride and groom model couple).  You all did a splendid job!

Below are just a select few photos I sneakily took throughout the day, which should give you a small insight into our workshops:

Cathie approched FX Media to ask for an ‘about me’ film, that also doubled up as a job application. So this meant a great opportunity to mix fun scenes, with some personal thoughts, insights and quotes.

To make this film stand out, 3D animation, cloning, motion timelapses, typography animation and title sequences were all integrated. Below are just some of the before-and-after framegrabs (NB. the balloon shot isn’t in the final cut):

Last year, due to high-demand, we created a workshop for budding wedding cinematographers, all willing to learn tips and tricks to better their game and raise their profits. Bridezilla Bootcamp was born, and what a huge success it was! (click here to see the original promo film and web-page)

This year we decided to expand the workshop to two days, to incorporate even more film-related education (weddings/corporate/music/short-films). This we have rather predictably called Bridezilla Bootcamp mk2!

Instead of having an informative promo film, this time we took a risk in creating a spoof video themed around support groups. It’s had a truly great reaction:

We’ve continued to produce films to the ever-growing bank of films for Usborne Books at Home. Whilst you can find them all on their newly-branded site, here’s a random one for you to see right now:

3D design is now available from FX Media. Traffic Experiment‘s brand new logo can be seen in this short clip below:

Traffic Experiment’s live session was an amazing experience for us to film – 8 cameras running at once, capturing some of the most talented musicians in a rather unique studio:

After seeing the above logo design, our friends Engage Cinema requested a similar design for their new logo. This time, we utilised alpha mattes (techy-talk, sorry) to enable them to drop the logo over any footage (for a clever reveal). You simply have to take the time out to watch their latest (and greatest) clip:

Other projects have included:

• a circuit board animation for a major trade show
• filming an ex-Eastenders star for the day (sorry, top secret)
• working with The Black Hats on an upcoming music video
• beginning a series of vox-pop films for Thomson Local
• training up filmmaker-wannabes on a weekly basis
• helping local primary school children turn a storyboard into film-visuals
• running seminars in Oxford for local filmmakers
• helping to develop 3 new online training sites for private clients (again, top secret!)
• testing an exciting new filming product
• announcing a sequel Film Workshop

Blogcademy is a rather special workshop, so popular yet quite specialist in topic matter.  Rock n Roll Bride, Gala Darling and Shanua Haider (Nubby Twiglet) decided to combine forces and deliver invaluable information on blogging strategy, branding and personality.  The 2-day workshop took place in the white-space Curtain Road Studios of London, impressively branded and decorated to suit!

Special mentions to Lisa Devlin, Shell De Mar, Gareth Williams and Restoration Cakes – all great to hang around and eat tasty cake with

For this film, I wanted to completely bespoke it to match the colour-branding of Blogcademy’s….as well as integrate a self-made title animation using their website graphics.  (Left = raw shots. Right = final output with colour grading)

Niemierko is known as one of the top planners of some of the most lavish and elegant weddings in the UK.

This wedding was one of the most memorable I’ve helped out with, for the fact I’ve been fascinated the architecture and history of Battersea Power Station since childhood.  So imagine being allowed to walk inside its shell, to see a 3 day transformation on a wedding like no other!

David Pullum Photography regularly holds workshops for other wedding photographers, but was yet to have a film showing what one might be like.   So that’s where I stepped in!

Aaron approached me a while ago asking if they could have a small ‘about me’ clip, to complement and tie in with their upcoming re-brand for ‘Storry Photography’.  I have to say I instantly fell in love with their work….oh, and their dog, Maddy.

The re-brand is absolutely stunning and really shows off their fabulously timeless photo portfolio.  It was nice to feel part of their big change!

My talk is on the afternoon of the 24th January, in the Pool House, and I’ll be guiding students through the hows and whys of DSLR filming, and demonstrating each component of my kit list. This will be very much a hands on and interactive talk, and at all times I’ll talk through thought processes about filming techniques, shot choices and equipment usage with actual footage examples. There will be emphasis on how photographers can create profitable add-ons to existing photography packages, and a beginners guide to editing and workflows.

So come check it out, it’s definitely one not to miss!
