Kathryn and James – Wedding Highlights

Kathryn and James:
Simplicity (FX Films + Lime Leaf Weddings = Cinematography + Photography)
St Audries Park, West Quantoxhead, Somerset

Kat and James flew all the way over from Adelaide, Australia, for their wedding at St Audries Park in West Quantoxhead, Somerset.

James was originally from the UK, and met Kat at a church in Adelaide when he was travelling the world, and moved over to Oz to be together.  A lovely touch for the day was that their Pastor, Danny, also flew over from Oz to conduct the service, and having known Kat and her family for years, gave a very personal and moving service.

They are a stunning couple, both inside and out … and they have great music taste (they’ll know what I mean!)

Please enjoy this clip of two halves, and then click here to go and browse over the beautiful photos from our partner photography team, Lime Leaf Weddings.

Rachel and Ben – Wedding Highlights

Rachel and Ben:
Simplicity (FX Films + Lime Leaf Weddings = Cinematography + Photography)
Brympton House, Brympton D’Evercy, nr. Yeovil, Somerset

Rachel and Ben had put a lot of time into planning every detail of their wedding, and the day itself was every bit as perfect as they had hoped.

Brympton House in the hamlet of Brympton D’Evercy, is one of our favourite venues as it is so picturesque and unique. The wedding ceremony was held in the Dower House, followed by drinks reception on the lawn. After the sit down meal and speeches (including a brilliant best mans speech by Guy), everyone headed over to the beautiful Orangery for the afterparty. Rachel had the brilliant idea of organised a photo booth in the bar which was complete with built in wind machine, and had the guests piling in all night.

The rest of the evening was spent eating wedding cake and bacon sarnies to keep energy levels high for hitting the dancefloor while the incredibly talented Time Out band played. Bens best man Guy had mentioned in his speech about Bens infamous own style of dancing which he described as ‘a cross between Michael Jackson and a Russian Cossack dancer’, which we got to see when Ben hit the floor. It truly was brilliant to watch!

‘Save The Date’ – Our own (silly) wedding invitation clip!

What started out as a silly ‘we’ll-never-do-it’ idea, actually turned into reality. (Most people I know will say I never turn down a challenge!)

My fiancée, Kate, and I have created our own ‘Save The Date’ wedding invitation clip, to email out to our chosen wedding guests. It doesn’t replace official wedding invitations, but it certainly is a fun and memorable visual-fest to show them our venue and tell them the date.

The story behind the clip:
We wanted something never seen before, and it HAD to be original, and funny.

So, just a couple of months ago I had the most random idea of making small character puppets for our own adult heads. But neither myself or Kate wanted to create these puppet bodies ourselves so we tried to source something appropriate. I’m afraid to say there was only solution… to buy full puppets…and cut the heads off. A surreal and sorry moment:(

We then sourced wedding outfits from a completely different make of puppet, and checked in advance that they would fit (ok, the shoes were a difficult fit, but everything else was fine!)

On the day of filming, we used some black bedsheets (complete with holes for our heads and puppet hand sticks), tripod stands, DSLR cameras, lights, and audio recorders…and away we went.

But because we were the only 2 present in the room, we (I!) literally had to press record on the DSLR, rush my outfit on and start our improvised performance. Hence my sweaty forehead. I was so hot wearing 2 black scarves (to hide my neck), and facing a pro light! Kate on the other hand looks fine!  We even set a big mirror up behind the DSLR so we could catch glimpse of ourselves as we tried out silly mannerisms!

The story behind the editing:
As with most of my edits, I had the vision in my head and knew of ways to piece it altogether.

Kate just had to trust me during filming, when I said things like ’look up when we talk about the venue because I will cut to a wide shot showing it’…and she must have thought I had really lost the plot when I said about a big fire explosion transition between normal attire and wedding attire!

<techy bit, sorry> Editing consisted of many many nested sequences, pitch adjustments to the audio, colour-grading, suitable sfx and song choice, and many tweaks … but I got there in the end!

The ‘Save The Date’ clip:
So now sit back and enjoy our ‘Save The Date’ clip…and yes, you’ll be laughing AT us, and not WITH us;)

And here are some behind-the-scenes photos for you too!

FX Films is 5 years old today!

Happy birthday to us! We’re a whopping 5 years old today!

We could list 5 years of brilliantly memorable moments, favourite wedding stories, and most emotional edits etc…but we’ll spare you…because we’re too busy eating celebratory cake;)

Kris and Vicky – Wedding Highlights

Kris and Vicky:
St. Michaels Church, Askerswell, Dorset
Haselbury Mill, Haselbury Plucknett, Nr Crewkerne, Somerset

Fact of the day – Kris is (and has been for a long time) our biggest fan … and when we saw his beautiful bride, the stunning venues AND the coolest, vintage car ever – a red ford mustang – well, we quickly became a fan back!!

Thanks for choosing us to film your special day – and we’re glad to hear you enjoyed your epic honeymoon safari expedition!

Engaged + ‘Wedding Videographer 2010′ The Bridal Magazine + ‘The Trained Eye’

How much good news can there possibly be in 1 month?!

The most exciting for me personally, and the most life-changing, is the news that I proposed to my girlfriend Kate. She said ‘Yes’. Phew! It’s funny that the first question people asked (after saying ‘Congrats’) was
‘did you film the reaction?’,
and the second was
‘how are you going to film your own wedding?!’:)
I won’t go into the details of how I proposed, but I will reveal that it included 70+ roses, a haribo ring, well-planned timing, and a very nervous moi! (n.b. the haribo ring isn’t a permanent fixture!)

Next up, I’ve woken up on this snowy morning, to find out that FX Films has just won the title of ‘Best Wedding Videographer’ in the 2010 Wedding Supplier Awards (‘The Bridal Magazine‘). We’re all utterly chuffed, and v.thankful to everyone that voted. According to The Bridal Magazine, there were 28,000 votes from start to finish.

And to end on a clip, I’ve just completed a mini-promo for ‘The Trained Eye‘ (a photography training company who run courses and academys). It’s short and sweet, and contains footage I’ve shot on separate days, and includes vox-pop testimonials from a couple of their successful students:

Claire and Roberto – Wedding Highlights

Claire and Roberto:
The Crazy Bear, Stadhampton, Oxford

Although this was a last minute booking, I couldn’t wait to step in and film Clare and Roberto’s wedding – not only did I already know the Crazy Bear venue from a previous wedding shoot, but it somehow felt like I already knew the couple (they said the same … so maybe we all do, somehow!)

The whole day was a complete mixture of laughter and fun … and tears.  And an opportunity for us all to listen to the mesmerising voice of Nikki Loy – without doubt, one of the most talented solo musicians I’ve met, and now a good friend of mine.  I can’t wait to make her a music video in the coming months, but in the meantime check out ‘Now or Never’, the track featured in this clip :)

Also, I was glad to work alongside the team from The Bridal Photographer, as they are local to me and we’ll most likely cover a few upcoming local weddings together.

Thanks for including me in the day Clare and Roberto – what a pleasure!

Hannah and Dean – Wedding Highlights

Hannah and Dean:
Purley United Reformed Church, Purley
Hilton Hotel, Croydon

Booked a long time ago, this was to be quite a different sort of day for us.  We only filmed the ceremony and speeches for Hannah and Dean.  But with so many guests and great choice of venues, I found there was still enough brilliant material when I came to edit the cinematic highlights clip! And a massive thanks once again to Henley Bailey (from our partner photography company, Lime Leaf Weddings) for being such a brilliant 2nd camera assistant!

And WOW, we had never seen a wedding cake designed to be EXACTLY THE SAME as the actual wedding dress, worn by Hannah.  Very impressive!!!

Congratulations you two!

10 Reasons why we work alongside photographers ‘Lime Leaf Weddings’

Whether you are a new visitor to our site, or even someone who regularly browses our blog to see what we’re up to … well you simply can’t escape the fact we like to promote our partnership with photography company ‘Lime Leaf Weddings‘ at every possible opportunity!

Last year, we took more ‘Simplicity’ (combined cinematography + photography) bookings than any other package, and we thank all those couples whose special days we have (or will have) jointly covered.

So we thought it’d be nice to give our personal top 10 reasons for absolutely loving our partner photography team! Here goes:

1.) We love their photography!
2.) We feed off each others innovative ideas to drive our companies forward, and can constantly give feedback and suggestions to one another
3.) We know exactly how to work with and around each other during a wedding shoot … without muttering a word!
4.) We all use Canon equipment, which makes lens and equipment sharing very easy!
5.) We all agree that team meetings should be über fun … and involve G+T … and popcorn
6.) We’ve each got 2 cats, all with massive personalities and amusing names
7.) Henley and Richard share a somewhat geeky passion for gadgets and gizmos
8.) We seem to like all the same TV films and series … from ’24′ to ’Napolean Dynamite’ to ‘Alan Partridge’!
9.) Henley makes superb professional coffee … ya’know - with mail-order coffee beans, and the fancy crema (lime?)leaf!
10.) They make us laugh … alot … all the time!

And to end on, we tried to select 10 of our favourite photos they have taken over the last couple of months.  But it was too hard to select 10, so we just selected a whole big bunch instead (and in no order of preference)!

Rachel and Andy – Wedding Highlights

Rachel and Andy:
St Giles Church, Newcastle-under-Lyme
Upper House, Stoke-On-Trent

Rachel and Andy actually booked us two years ago, alongside partner-photography team Lime Leaf Weddings (see here for their photo blog entry), for our first ‘Simplicity’ Package.  So we were just as excited as them, to give to their special day our combined team efforts.

Before the service, Andys dad had a mobility scooter and almost became an outlaw rather than an in-law to Rachel, when he managed to put it on full speed straight into the side of the immaculate ice white Rolls-Royce Phantom worth a cool £260,000. Luckily, there wasnt too much damage done, and the driver didnt seem too concerned (although Andy did give his dad a ticking off!).

After the service at St. Giles Church in Newcastle-under-Lyme , everyone headed over to The Upper House, which was a former Wedgewood residence, and was a fantastic setting for the champagne reception.

Congratulations to you both, and all our very best to you…

Verity and David – Wedding Highlights

Verity and David:
English Wine Centre, Berwick, East Sussex

Oh how we love any wedding that starts on a beach and ends in a big, lovely barn!

Verity and David are such warming characters…and so chilled out.  Infact, as far as we could see, there was no hint of stress on the biggest day of their lives!

For this highlights clip, I actually gave myself a challenge of including 3 different variations of a song they both like! See if you can hear the transitions…
